One of the great things about the Zoom-Bed is the ability to create truly stunning cabinetry for your home while fulfilling your practical needs to accommodate guests and optimize precious space.
A truly unique example of this can be seen below. Our Greenwich, NY (near Saratoga) based dealer, Rulyn Design Resources recently installed a Queen Size Zoom-Bed in Chelsea (Manhattan) for a client in love with the current trend for reusing rustic woods. This one is antique Chestnut discovered in an old barn! Note the matching side cabinet, which, among other things, houses a small bar – perfect for holiday entertaining!

We also specialize in home offices, regular beds and bedroom furniture. Take, for example, this elegant cabinetry featuring three sets of drawers, ample space for a flat screen TV and cubbies to show off favorite objects. This particular example of bedroom furniture is part of our Royal Line, and is fabricated in solid wood with premium white paint. The lucky owners live in Coral Gables, FL, and is a key feature of the master bedroom addition they recently completed on their classic 1940’s bungalow.

Our feature Zoom-Bed for this week is our first-ever retrofit small space project.
So, to start off, here at Zoom-Room, we don’t like to retrofit. The elegant design of the Zoom-Bed electronic Murphy Bed mechanism and mattress requires cabinets with exact dimensions. It’s difficult to take existing cabinetry, not built with our unique bed system in mind, and make it work.
This residence in Ft. Lauderdale is an exception. This beautiful home office had stunning original cabinetry that fit exactly – well, almost exactly – the required cabinet dimensions. With a bit of “behind the scenes” filler here, and a discrete cut there, together with diligently matching the wood and finish of our new headboard, footboard and desk components, we were able to transform the office into a convertible guest room – without affecting the carefully crafted décor and style of the room.
And since we put in a Zoom-Desk, the room is still a comfortable home office for the couple who live there.
As we told you in our last post, Zoom-Room recently made its way to beautiful Boca Raton, Florida to install an American Modern Queen Size Zoom-Bed. What we didn’t mention was that we also installed a matching Zoom-Desk in the same location! The Zoom-Room Zoom-Desk gives clients the flexibility to work and play in the same area, offering a terrific fold down desk and a remote controlled retractable Murphy Bed, all wrapped in a beautiful and sophisticated custom cabinet.
As finely hand-crafted as our more traditional Royal Line, The American Modern Line of all-wood cabinets evoke the great 20th century Prairie and Amish styles born of the American heartland. This unit below is a Zoom-Desk center cabinet with one 18” side bookshelf cabinet with three drawers and a nightstand. The wood veneer is in Alder with a custom driftwood stained finish. We hope you enjoyed this Zoom-Room wall bed installation in Boca Raton, Florida!
Check out our recent Zoom-Room remote controlled Murphy Bed installation that we recently completed here in South Florida. This sophisticated, traditional Royal Line unit is made from Alder wood and finished with a premium alabaster painted finish. What really stands out, however, are the client designed 12” curio side cabinets with glass shelves.
The results are terrific! And of course, everyone is bowled over when they find out there’s a bed in there!

Another week of creating:
A survey conducted on existing-home sales by the National Association of Realtors in mid-June 2015 shows that millennials aren’t showing the same interest in the American dream of owning a house as their parents did. The initial pain of coming up with a down payment, plus the nomadic tendencies of today’s youth, contribute to this trend. According to the census, both the price of home ownership and rents have nearly doubled since the 1990s.
All this, plus the perennial attraction of urban living for our young professionals is creating what we like to call the age of small space living. This may include old fashioned studios, but now the trend is also toward “micro apartments”. This is a new concept that definitely does not conjure up images of empty, rundown rooms. To the contrary, micro apartments are designed to hold all the amenities of a large apartment, but in a smaller space - sometimes as small as 220 square feet (smaller than a standard hotel room).
A testimonial from just one client we've had the pleasure of working with in the past few months. Check out her Murphy bed review below.
“Quality all the way! That was the experience I had working with the team from Zoom-Room. The end result was a gorgeous home office/guest room that fulfilled all our needs. The attention to detail was amazing as well as the flexibility and creativity of their designers. The products themselves; bed mechanism, mattress, cabinetry and hardware are of the highest quality and were custom made to fit our space. Even the color of the cabinets was custom made for us! The installation was top notch as well as the follow up customer service. We would highly recommend creating your beautiful space with Zoom-Room.”
A bit like Pandora's box, but with only good things inside, this incredible 250 square-foot studio in Barcelona can transform itself into a many room apartment - at least sequentially - within minutes. Built in, convertible furniture, together with thoughtful organization and multipurpose usage of space is the key. The result? A milestone in smart small space design resonating with nautical flair and the spirit of Zen.
What is first a living room transforms into a bedroom or dining area, utilizing fold-up and flip-down furniture, nooks, cupboards, and chests to utilize every last square inch of storage space.
The roll-out bed (shades of Zoom-Room, though this one is manual) slides out from under the exterior deck (yes, the deck), doubles as a bench or couch, and then serves as a staircase to the outdoors! Now that's a convertible bed.
Everything is tucked into the walls (including sinks, dishwasher, and pantry), and out of the way unless needed. The toilet and bath are a...
